On the 17th of April 2018 VMware released vSphere and vCenter Server 6.7.
What’s new in this release and why should we think about upgrading?
We have rounded up some of the key benefits of upgrading to 6.7, check them out below:
- Quick Boot to allow Hosts to reboot lightning fast
- Expansion on the HTML5 vSphere Client (less requirements to use the flash client)
- Additional vCenter backup scheduling options
- Performance increases with better memory and DRS resource consumption
- vGPU enhancements allowing suspend and resume operations on virtual machines
- Per-VM EVC (Enhanced vMotion Compatibility) which allows granular control over VMs and their hosts
- Instant Clone APIs have been released
- VDIMM, TPM, VBS and I/O Memory management – features of the new Hardware Version 14
- VMFS6
- Automatic Space Reclamation – Allows storage systems to reclaim deleted or unmapped disk blocks from VMFS datastores
- 4K Native Drives in 512e mode (now default)
- SE Sparse is now default on v6.7 enhancing on the older VMFSsparse allowing further space reclamation
On the 5th of December 2019 VMware released 6.7 Update 3b which is at the time of writing this article is the latest release. 6.7 u3b fixes a host of known issues and we recommend you upgrade to this release as soon as possible.
